Service LITE explained

woman with hearing aid

With advances in hearing aid technology and online connectivity, Sound Hearing is now able to provide some parts of hearing care remotely. Remote Hearing Care means virtual appointments via a smartphone, your hearing aid can be adjusted by an audiologist from any location.

This means the traditional hearing care model of bundling the price of hearing aids and face to face service whether in the clinic or your home, can now be modified. Service LITE offers considerably cost savings for suitable customers without sacrificing access to audiologists and hearing aid adjustments.

Sound Hearing has called this new hearing aids and service delivery model Service LITE. Only RIC (receiver in the canal) and BTE (Behind the Ear) hearing aids are available with and Service LITE will not be suitable for everyone. All custom-made hearing aids, IIC CIC and ITE (Invisible in the canal, Completely in the canal and In the ear) are only available with our Standard Service Plan and pricing.

Standard (traditional) hearing care service explained

Hearing aids in the UK have traditionally been prescribed (sold) with the price of the hearing aids and service bundled together. This is still necessary for custom made products such as IIC, CIC and ITE (Invisible-in-the-canal, Completely-in-the-canal and In-the-ear) though as already discussed not necessarily necessary for RIC and BTE (Receivers-in-the-Canal and Behind-the-Ear) products which tend to be more robust than custom products and can be adjusted with remote hearing care.

What is Remote Hearing Care?

Many new hearing aids allow for virtual appointments via a smartphone. This means your hearing aid can be adjusted by an audiologist from any location.

This means the customer does not have to visit the audiologist at the clinic or the audiologist visit the customer in their residence.

Over the last year telehealth virtual consultations with medical practitioners have become increasingly popular.

Remote Hearing Care is the same as a virtual telehealth appointment except the audiologist can also adjust your hearing aids in real time.

For Remote Hearing Care to work the customers needs compatible hearing aids and a smartphone.

Sound Hearing does not recommend your hearing test and fitting of your hearing aid be completed by remote hearing care/telehealth.

Before fitting hearing aids Sound Hearing recommend an audiologist accesses the health of your ears and completes a hearing assessment using a calibrated audiometer – at present this cannot be done remotely.  To ensure the hearing aid is fitted correctly using the right size receivers and domes to fit your unique ears we recommend a face-to-face appointment.

During your in-person appointment the audiologist will also show you how to insert, remove and care for your hearing aids, connect them to your smart phone and show you how to request and setup remote hearing care for subsequent appointments.
