Standard hearing care service explained

Most hearing aids privately provided in the UK come with standard service, which is often advertised as lifetime in-person aftercare. The ability to access lifetime aftercare can vary depending on factors, including appointment availability and the distance you will need to travel for an appointment.

Sound Hearing delivers its standard hearing care service in person and at your home. Our on-demand service model means you will never need to wait long for an audiologist to visit. If your hearing aids are broken and require a manufacturer’s repair, we can often lend you hearing aids while they are away.

What is included with Standard Service?

  • Home Visit Hearing Assessment and consultation to find the right hearing aid for you
  • Fitting of Hearing Aids and Follow-up Appointment.
  • Unlimited free in-person follow-up and aftercare appointments
  • 60-day hearing aid money-back guarantee
  • 5-year hearing aid manufacturer’s warranty

Who would benefit from Standard Service?

  • Customers who choose to have Custom-made hearing aids (IIC, CIC, ITC, ITE).
  • Hearing aid users who feel they will struggle with the maintenance of their hearing aids.
  • Customers who prefer a more personalised face-to-face relationship with their audiologist.

woman with hearing aidService LITE explained

Our Service LITE service unbundles the cost of the hearing aid from the service.

It is important to note that Service LITE still includes an in-person complete hearing assessment, hearing aid fitting, and follow-up appointment. Ongoing service is provided free via remote hearing aid care, and home in-person visits are pay-as-you-go.

Most new advanced hearing aids can now be adjusted remotely via a phone app and the internet; this is called remote hearing care.

Service LITE is available on all Receiver-in-canal (RIC) and Behind-the-Ear (BTE) hearing aids. Service LITE is not available for Custom Made Hearing Aids (IIC, CIC, ITC, ITE) since these hearing aids often need more servicing, maintenance and repairs with the manufacturers.

What is included in Service LITE:

  • A Free diagnostic Hearing test.
  • Hearing Aid Fitting Appointment and Follow-up Appointment.
  • 60-day money-back guarantee
  • 5-year manufacturer’s warranty
  • Free Remote Hearing Care for the whole life of your hearing aids
  • Pay as you go for in-person home visit appointments.

Who would benefit from Service LITE?

  • New Hearing Aid Users who are confident given instructions will be able to clean and maintain their hearing aids.
  • Experienced hearing aid users who are looking to upgrade their hearing aids and can maintain them. Maybe you have received a quote from a high street provider(Boots, Specsavers, Amplifon, Hidden Hearing) and are exploring whether you can reduce your hearing aid costs.
  • Hearing aid users who spend a long time overseas – why pay for face-to-face service that you cannot access?
  • We often have enquiries from people who have lost one or both of their hearing aids and want to replace them at a lower price.
  • Customers who can also have access to and use applications on a smartphone with an internet connection

What is Remote Hearing Care?

Many new hearing aids allow for virtual appointments via a smartphone. This means your hearing aid can be adjusted by an audiologist from any location.

Are you currently wearing hearing aids? If so, remote hearing care may be especially relevant for you, as it allows for convenient adjustments and support.

This means the customer does not have to visit the audiologist at the clinic or have the audiologist visit them in their home.

Remote Hearing Care is the same as a virtual telehealth appointment, except the audiologist can also adjust your hearing aids in real time.

For Remote Hearing Care to work, the customer needs compatible hearing aids and a smartphone.

Sound Hearing does not recommend that your hearing test and hearing aid fitting be completed by remote hearing care/telehealth.

Hearing Aid Prices

Explore the latest features in hearing aids and how they can benefit your unique hearing needs.

When considering hearing aids, one of the most common questions is, “How much do hearing aids cost?” The answer depends on several key factors. The type and severity of your hearing loss, the technology level of the device and the features you choose all play a part. Features like Bluetooth connectivity and rechargeable batteries are now available at the entry level. Advanced features like sophisticated noise reduction and hearing aids trained with Artificial Intelligence are at the higher end of the price range.

Other factors that affect aid costs are the brand and model, the size and style of the device and the level of aftercare and support from your audiologist. Remember, investing in hearing aids is not just about the device itself, but about the benefits they bring – better communication, increased confidence and a more social life.

To make hearing aids more affordable, Sound Hearing can offer flexible financing options to suit different financial situations and budgets. By understanding the factors that affect hearing aid costs and working with an expert audiologist, you can find a solution that gives you the best value and support for your needs.

What affects the price of hearing aids, and how can you make sense of your investment?

Hearing Aid Technology

The world of hearing aids is changing, with leading hearing aid manufacturers introducing new features and innovations to improve the user experience. Today’s advanced hearing aids offer a lot of benefits, including Bluetooth connectivity for streaming calls and music, powerful noise reduction trained with artificial intelligence for clearer conversations and rechargeable batteries for hassle-free daily use.

Digital hearing aids now come with advanced features that automatically adapt to your environment, providing excellent sound quality whether you’re in a quiet room or a busy restaurant. Many models also have discreet designs and allow the wearer to customise the hearing aid settings via an app on their mobile,  so you can find the perfect hearing aid and settings that fit your lifestyle and preferences.

With so many technology levels and features to choose from, it’s never been easier to find a hearing aid that suits your unique needs. Whether you prioritise convenience, sound quality or advanced connectivity, exploring the latest hearing aid technology ensures you get the most out of your investment and better hearing every day.

Hearing Aid Service

When you buy hearing aids, you are also paying for service. This often includes:

  • Hearing Test and Consultation
  • Hearing Aid Fitting
  • Aftercare and Servicing Appointments
  • Hearing aid warranty

In the UK, this is often bundled into the total price you pay for the hearing aids. By bundling the price, it isn’t easy to separate the cost of the service from the cost of the product. With service ‘for life’ and the hearing aid costs bundled, you pay for the service whether you use it or not.

Many hearing aid providers also rebrand hearing aids, so it is difficult to compare prices. In the UK, this includes Specsavers with their in-house Advance Range, Amplifon with their rebranded Ampli range and Boots Hearingcare with their Audionova range of hearing aids.

With rebranded hearing aids, it is not only hard to find out which manufacturer has made the product, but the hearing aid may also be locked to the provider’s systems. This means only they can adjust and service the hearing aids, limiting your options. If the provider were to stop providing hearing care services, no other providers would be able to reprogram your hearing aids.

Sound Hearing only prescribes manufacturer-branded hearing aids, and with our standard and service LITE option, you can choose a level of service that fits your needs.

Should I buy my Hearing Aids Online?

When searching for hearing aid prices, you have likely found websites that will post preprogrammed hearing aids to you and provide ongoing service via remote hearing care. These companies often advertise lower hearing aid costs than hearing aid clinics or home visit hearing care providers. When considering buying hearing aids online, please consider that you are purchasing a sophisticated medical device and not a set of earbuds or headphones. Off-the-shelf hearing aids are marketed as more affordable but lack professional fitting.

Sound Hearing does not send out or recommend purchasing preprogrammed hearing aids online:

  • Advanced hearing aids have exceptional sound quality, and with noise reduction, can improve speech understanding in challenging listening environments, helping users hear clearly in everyday and difficult situations. Achieving the best performance from a premium hearing aid requires an in-person fitting and a follow-up.
  • Hearing aids can be fitted with replaceable domes or custom tips and earmolds. Manufacturers provide up to 15 different sizes and shapes of domes depending on the. The one you need will depend on your ear anatomy and hearing loss. How does an audiologist determine the correct dome for you via a video phone call?
  • Many customers receive improved hearing aid performance and retention in the ear with custom earmolds. Custom earmolds (micromolds, slim tips, cshells) require impressions of the ear. This requires an in-person appointment.
  • Poor retention of your hearing aid may result in the hearing aid falling out of your ear and being lost.
  • Your Hearing aid software often requires updating, which can not be done remotely.
