Ear Wax Removal
Earwax is entirely natural, and the amount produced varies from person to person. Earwax typically falls out of the ear on its own, though in some people it builds up and can block their ears. Causes can include:
- Narrow ear canals
- A Tight bend in the ear canal
- Excessive hair in the ear canals
- Skin conditions, e.g. Atopic eczema/dermatitis
- Frequent use of earbuds or sleeping plugs
Symptoms of blocked ears may include:
- Hearing loss
- Earache or a feeling that your ears are blocked
- Itchiness and irritation
- A full sensation or pressure in the ear
- Tinnitus (ringing in your ears)
Sound Hearing uses microsuction to remove earwax. This can be completed in our Bexley Hearing Clinic or at your own home.

Sound Hearing Shop | Hearing Aid Spare Parts and Bluetooth Accessories
The most common cause of poor hearing aid performance or failure is blockage caused by earwax. The hearing aid can usually be restored by changing the filter, dome, receiver or tubing.
Finding the correct spares for your hearing aid is essential and can be difficult. We hope we have designed our shop to simplify the process. You can search by finding your hearing aid, and then the correct spares for your device will be listed. You can also search by spare part types, send us a message or give us a call.
The NHS offers free hearing aids in the UK, though accessing the spare parts can be time-consuming. Our Shop stocks all the spares you need for NHS hearing aids.
Our shop offers spare parts from all the leading manufacturers of hearing aids. We supply replacement chargers for hearing aids and wireless accessories, including TV connectors, Remote Mics, Remote Controls, and Phonak Roger™ wireless microphones.
If you feel your hearing aids are not performing well for the Television or listening to music, consider trying a wireless accessory before purchasing new hearing aids. Most hearing aids in recent years have Bluetooth included, allowing for streaming from Televisions with a TV connector.
Hearing Aid Reprogramming
Is your hearing aid not working quite like it used to? You might not have to replace them.
Let Sound Hearing retest your hearing and reprogram your hearing devices. All digital hearing aids can be reprogrammed, and the device settings can be updated.
Most hearing loss is due to slow inner ear and auditory nerve deterioration, which is called sensorineural hearing loss.
Your hearing aids are programmed to a prescription calculated from your audiogram (hearing test results).
If you have had your hearing aids for a few years and have not had your hearing retested, then the hearing aid prescription may no longer match your hearing loss.
Your hearing aids may also need cleaning and servicing. If the filters are blocked, your microphone may not receive all the sound waves, resulting in poor hearing aid performance and impaired hearing.
Sound Hearing can check your hearing aids performance and service them. If we can not repair your hearing aids to peak performance during our visit, we can send them for repair.
Hearing aids can also have their firmware upgraded. Manufacturers often release updates for their hearing aids, which improve performance, connection to phones and hearing aid chargers.
Sound Hearing can retest and reprogram your hearing aids, clean and service them and upgrade the software inside them, all from the comfort of your home.
Some hearing aid providers lock their hearing aids to their computers so they can only adjust them. This includes many Specsavers hearing aids and all NHS hearing aids. When contacting us, we will need to ask which hearing aids you have so we can advise whether reprogramming is possible.
